Programme 02

Skills development

Skills that let people grow on their own strength.

We invest in skills so that people can build on their own strength. We start with the person, not the programme, and we show what is possible and how it grew.

Why it matters

Skills that communities carry forward.

A skill belongs to the person who has it. It travels with them, and it can be passed on. That makes skills one of the surest ways for people and communities to grow on their own strength.

We invest in skills so that people can build on what they already have, and so that communities can carry what they learn forward.

How we work

How we approach skills development.

Every programme follows the same principles. Here is how they show up in this one.

  • Compassionate

    Start with the person

We begin with what a person wants to be able to do, not with a course we want to run.

  • Hopeful

    Show what is possible

We show what is possible and how it grew, so that others can see the way and follow it.

  • Dignified

    People shape what they learn

Help is offered as partnership: people have a say in what they learn, and how.

  • Rooted

    Skills for local needs

Local people, local needs: skills are chosen to fit the place where they will be used.

What it looks like

Workshops, and hands learning and making

Skills are learned by doing. The work is set in workshops and practical spaces, where hands learn and make.

How we look at it

Three questions we ask of this work.

Means, dignity and flourishing: the same three questions we ask of everything we do.

  • 01

    Means

Do people have access to the skills they want to build?

  • 02

    Dignity

Do they shape what they learn, and how?

  • 03

    Flourishing

Can communities carry the skills forward on their own?

Help skills travel further.
